Safe Harbor

GIVEAWAY
BARRITT, CHRISTY
SAFE HARBOR

A job as easy as Sunday morning...

Guilt over past mistakes haunt Navy SEAL Dez Rodriguez. When he's asked to guard a pop star during a music festival on Lantern Beach, he's all set for what he hopes is a breezy assignment.

Until he meets Bree Jordan...

Bree hasn't found fame to be nearly as fulfilling as she dreamed. Instead, she's more like a carefully crafted character living out a pre-scripted story. When a stalker's threats become deadly, her life -- and career -- are turned upside down.

Danger rises up the charts...

From the start, Bree sees her temporary bodyguard as a player, and Dez sees Bree as a spoiled rich girl. But when they're thrown together in a fight for survival, both must learn to trust. Can Dez protect Bree -- and his carefully guarded heart? Or will their safe harbor ultimately become their death trap?

My Review:

First of all -- I just noticed the disconnect with the book title and the actual title on the cover. Had to do an info dive to see which is the right one. It is Safe Harbor and is correct on Amazon but Good Reads (where I got this pic from) has the cover with Deep Harbor on it. Just a funny little book quirk for your Tuesday. :-)

Since I missed all the other Lantern Beach series, I'm determined to keep current with this one (Lantern Beach Blackout.) Love these guys and the way they work together -- friends with a grim history but they still know how to razz each other. Great team dynamics, a stellar romance and a creepy stalker-vibe suspense sold me on this story. Getting to know these characters kept me there.

I'm usually not a fan of stardom story lines. Just can't connect at all, but I could with Bree right from the heart-pounding opening scene. Wooheee, but this author knows how to keep a reader (or listener) in a near coronary state! And there's a great balance between the suspense and romance. Neither overpowers the other which makes for a very smooth read.

Plus, there's this  gripping over-arcing suspense thread that's being carried through each book. It's in the background but I'm guessing it's going to build to an exciting crescendo by the end of the series. So much to look forward to! Like Griff! I'm anxiously waiting for his story (Ripple Effect) to become available on audible.

I listened to the audible version of this book, narrated by Stacey Glemboski. Nothing like listening to an adrenaline rush of a read while counting your steps walking around the neighbourhood. Who needs a coach when you can have this kind of motivation to keep you moving? :-)

  1. I would LOVE to read this one in e-book format! I read all of Christy's that way as a matter of fact. She writes so quickly -- I'm with you! So hard to keep up! I'm also with you as far as not really caring for books about stardom, but another popular author just released a great one & I could really connect with the starlet (which is unusual for me.) Thanks for the great review and the opportunity to win another of Christy's great books!

    1. The stardomish books I've read recently are Knox and Tate by Susan May Warren. I enjoyed them as well so I guess I'm a never say never kind of reader when it comes to this theme. :-)

I missed the beginning Lantern series because they were only available in ebook format -- at least if there were paperbacks, they weren't available on Book Depository. So I eventually gave up on this author's indie books and then I discovered the first Lantern Beach Blackout book on audible. Yay!!! Good luck, Diana!

    2. Carolina Breeze by Denise Hunter features a rising star & I really didn't know if the storyline would interest me! Oh, but it did! I think Denise could write anything and I'd love it! lol

I hate to admit it, but Christy's ebooks are often (but not always) on sale so it's just a matter of a click for me. El Cheapo here doesn't even notice if they're in paperback version or not. I'm so happy you were able to listen to this one. That's great!!

    3. Oooohhh -- I have Carolina Breeze in my sightlines. Glad to hear that you loved it 'cause I was a little wary about that plotline! lol

    4. Hey ladies, joining in on this one. I just read Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by Bethany Turner and it had a celebrity twist as well. Albeit, celebrity chefs with their own cooking shows. I really enjoyed it and the forgiveness/redemption aspect. Light on the faith thread, though.

    5. Oohhh -- that sounds intriguing. I'm not a fan of celebrity chef shows either though I do love The Great British Baking Show -- think that's the title. :-) But I like Bethany Turner so I'll have to look into this one too. Thanks. Terrill!

    6. Kav, you simply MUST read Bethany's newest book (Hadley Beckett's Next Dish)!! Hilarious as always and the banter between Hadley & Max makes it over the top GOOD!

    1. This is a indie pubbed book so maybe early on she was going with Deep Harbor as a title and then switched it some point closer to the pub date but forgot to switch the graphic? It confused me for a time though. At least Dez on the cover assured me I was in the right place. :-) Good luck, Tracey!

  8. I'm finally read to get into this world of books. I just purchased the Lantern Beach P.D. series box set on sale. I wish that her audios were in the Audible Escape program so that I could listen to more of them, but I enjoy my actual reading time just as much.

    1. Since I don't read ebooks I'm super grateful that audible had these first two books in this series. They have some of the others -- but not all the books in each series. Gah! And they are also hit and miss on Book Depository. Good luck, Terrill!
