March Giveaway -- Week Three

WON BY KIM HANSEN

WON BY FREDA MANS

WON BY FAITH CREECH

WON BY JERIKA

WON BY LUCY REYNOLDS

You know the drill -- I will notify the winners if they included their email. If not, it's up to a winner to contact me at kavluvstoreadATyahooDOTca with their snail mail info. If I can't connect with a winner within a month, the win is forfeited. Books are usually sent out within a week of receiving a winner's mailing address but give it a month before inquiring about deliveries to allow for processing and shipping times.

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK'S GIVEAWAYS:

So I've been feeling pretty smug about my January, February and March New Releases wishlist. I've managed to either buy, request my library to purchase or receive review copies for a good chunk of them. But then I turned to the month of April and...GASP!...there's not a single book listed there. In fact, the rest of my reading pages are blank. Do you feel the same shot of cold fear shivering up your spine that I do? Shudder. And I know for a fact that there are a TON of fantastic new books coming out this spring. I have even scribbled down a few titles on scraps of paper which seem to have been swallowed whole by study clutter. Double Gasp! You know what that means, right?

IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER
READER'S CHOICE GIVEAWAY WEEK!

WOOHOO -- I'm so excited! I need your collective research skills to help me fill out my Spring Reading Wishlist -- Christian Fiction to be released in April, May or June 2018. As usual with these giveaways, please make sure to read the rules which will be posted each day. Basically, the week is divided into genre days where y'all can offer up to three book selections per day. Name/book combos will be entered in a draw and if you win it's an IOU for the book on release day.

Please note: because this is such a busy week and keeping on top of the comments pretty much takes up all my free time (blissfully so), this week's giveaways are closed to email entries. Sorry! But I have to sleep sometime. And read.

Here's the week's schedule:

Monday March 19 : Historical Romance or Historical Fiction - a full-length story OR novella collection set in any time period before the 1970s. May cross genres such as YA, suspense, Amish and includes dual timelines.

Tuesday March 20 : Contemporary Romance Fiction - a full-length story OR novella collection set in present day (1980 up). May cross genres such as YA, suspense, Amish and includes dual timelines.

Wednesday March 21 : Romantic Suspense/Mystery Fiction -- a full-length story OR novella collection where mystery is an important part of the plot. The hero or heroine (or both) are often in peril (more so in suspense). Can be set in any time period -- contemporary or historical. May cross genres such as YA, Amish or dual timeline.

Thursday March 22 : Amish Fiction -- a full-length story OR novella collection where the hero or heroine or both are Amish OR the story has significant Amish content with Amish secondary characters and an Amish community. Can be contemporary or historical and can have a mystery or suspense element.

Friday March 23 : Christian Fiction -- any genre including previous selections you've made on other days and also for specific genres not covered yet this week such as Women's Fiction, Science Fiction, Speculative etc.

Saturday March 24 : Retro Reads! - any Christian Fiction novel published 2017 or earlier. Here's your chance to catch the one that got away! Just make sure it's still in print...or in ebook format if you're okay with that.

True confession: I'm a tad shy of giddy over what's to come. Let the book sharing begin!!!!!!  (well, starting Monday!)

Dark Road Home

GIVEAWAY
LUDWIG, ELIZABETH
DARK ROAD HOME

Ana Kavanagh's memories of Ireland are mostly of fire and pain. As a girl she survived a blaze that left her an orphan, left her scarred, and left her angry at God. Now in New York, Ana finds a kindred spirit in Eoghan Hamilton, who's struggling with his own anger. His twin sister, Cara, betrayed him by falling in love with his enemy.

Cast aside by everyone, Eoghan hopes to rejoin the Finians, an organization pushing for change back in Ireland, by securing infromation against Rourke, the man his sister married. Ana, Cara's friend, may be his best source, and despite the attraction he feels, Eoghan determines to use the girl's sweet nature to his advantage.

Adding to the danger is a specter from Eoghan's own past, one whose thirst for vengeance knows no bounds. Eoghan must choose which road to follow -- bitterness or forgiveness -- and where to finally place his trust.

My Review:

published in 2013

Happy St.Patrick's Day. This Irish / Canadian reader loves to find a wee bit o'home inside a novel so I was thrilled to catch up on Elizabeth Ludwig's Edge of Freedom series. Oddly enough I've read book one and three but missed this one completely! Very sloppy of me, I know! But how opportune to be able to share an Irish tale on an Irish holiday. :-)

Dark Road Home does carry a dark thread within it's covers. We're talking about the Irish rebellion, after all. And the Finians are a complicated -- and dangerous -- group of men. Sinister sabotage and buried secrets threaten to blot out the hope of new opportunities in a new country.

Ana has come to America to escape her past. Eoghan is in New York to pursue the ghosts of his past.  These two have been battered by circumstance and balance on the precipice between bitterness and forgiveness. So much heartache and pain. And, honestly, I never wanted to simultaneously box ears and hug-smother a character more than I did chip-on-his-shoulder Eoghan! Gah! Stubborn Irishman. Of course, he complicates what could have been a fanciful boy-meets-girl tale into something so much edgier. And the suspense plot just sweetens the deal. If you enjoy a blend of danger and suspense with your historical romance, Dark Road Home might just be the perfect next read.

The only issue I have with this story is the author's tendency to confuse Scottish sayings with Irish. Contrary to popular belief, they are not interchangeable. :-)

Frontier Matchmaker Bride

GIVEAWAY
SCOTT, REGINA
FRONTIER MATCHMAKER BRIDE

The lawman meets his match

Successful Seattle matchmaker Beth Wallin has her most challenging assignment yet -- find Deputy Hart McCormick a bride. Beth's still smarting after the handsome lawman spurned her affections a year ago. But if she finds Hart a wife, Beth will gain favor with the city's most influential women...and perhaps free her own heart, as well.

Marriage is the last thing on the deputy's mind. After tragically losing his sweetheart, he vowed never to love again. But as sweet, spunky Beth introduces him to potential fiancees, Hart finally feels a spark...for her! The stubborn bachelor will be Beth's first matchmaking miss, unless they can both admit that she ust might be his perfect match.

Frontier Bachelors: bold, rugged -- and bound to be grooms

My Review:

Love it when a matchmaker gets caught in a web of her own making! And Beth is a force to be reckoned with but she's so vibrant and sweet and cheerful it's hard for Hart to hold a grudge. Or even dissuade her. He's held a certain regard for the feisty matchmaker since her audacious declaration months ago. His unkind rebuff was meant to spurn...and protect...Beth. And while he still feels confirmed bachelorhood is the decent thing to do, Beth has stirred foreign longings that are proving hard to fight.

In addition to all the fun and sniping this deputy and his matchmaker bring to the story, there's a suspense plot that stirs everything up into an exciting frenzy. And Scott has dedicated some satisfying page time to the heroes and heroines of previous books in the series. Namely Beth's brothers -- all happily married but still trying to run her life anyway. So much fun! Each book reads well as a standalone but this is a great series that you'll want to catch up with if you enjoy historical romance with sass and humour and a hard-won happily ever after.
