Hometown Reunion

GIVEAWAY
CARTER, LISA
HOMETOWN REUNION

A single dad starting over. Is this his second chance at love?

Widowed former Green Beret Jaxon Pruitt comes home to face his toughest battle: reconnecting with his toddler son. He also makes an unwitting enemy of childhood friend Darcy Parks when he takes over the kayak shop Darcy hoped to buy! For little Brody's sake, she'll stay until summer's end. But could a growing connection turn their temporary truce into an unexpected forever?

My Review:

Blissful sigh...I'll never think about lightning bugs in the same way again after reading Hometown Reunion. Sometimes it's those simple, precious scenes that touch this seasoned reader's heart the most. Lucky for me, Lisa Carter excels at those kind of story moments.

My heart's a ball of moosh right now -- not only over Jax but over his son as well. I think Brody wins the most adorable kid ever in a contemporary romance award! Poor little guy is adjusting to the stranger-that-is-actually-his-father taking charge of his young life. Jax wasn't an absentee father due to neglect though -- he was overseas serving his country. His story helped me understand the depth of sacrifices soldiers and their families make. I am truly humbled.

So Jax has missed out on a lot of his almost 'thwee' year-old son's life and it's a hard adjustment for both of them. Heading home to Kiptohanock to raise Brody among family and friends makes sense -- and also provides a buffer between this single dad and his toddler son. "As a former Green Beret, he'd always known what to do on any given mission, but Jax didn't know how to fix things with the son he barely knew." (p 7)

Watching this big, tough guy blunder his way into his role as full-time father is sheer heaven. It's funny and heart-tugging and sigh-worthy-sweet all on it's own but when Darcy is added to the mix -- oh-la-la -- toe-curling times are ahead! They have a history as friends...and were almost, maybe sorta on the verge of something more but Jax went off to boot camp and that was that. Sparks fly the first time they meet up and I couldn't get enough of these two (well, three if you count Brody.) They sent me into full romantical reader delirium!

  2. Yes, I was fortunate enough to get a review copy.
It drew me in because the setting is the Outer Banks of North Carolina, beaches I am familiar with and hour or two from me. Such a great story with a history lesson included.
Here's my review on amazon if you want to check it out:

    2. And there must be something special about North Carolina because I keep reading books with that state as the setting. Do you have a crazy number of authors living around you or something?

    3. Tracey and Kav, I just received my copy this week and I'm so excited to read it. Especially after skimming Tracey's review. Heehee. Only "skimming," because I don't want to know ANYTHING before I read it myself, except to know that you loved it. :)

  4. Totally off topic, but since it's just you and me this morning I'm sharing my cup of coffee with, I'm 262 pgs into Pam's 418 pgs of The Road to Magnolia Glen. I'm doing that read slow and savor vs. read fast to get to the HEA thing that happens in good books.
Those O'Shea brothers, whew!! If I have not thanked you a dozen times for this book, here I go again, so good and this series has the most gorgeous covers. I don't keep all the books I get, but these are on the keeper shelf as eye candy!

    1. You're killing me, Tracey!!! That's another title I'm tied up in knots of aniticpation over! So Quinn measures up to our Connor standards? I mean, I kinda thought he would with Pam writing but it's nice to have insider knowledge.

    2. Sorry Kav, not trying to kill you, what would we do without you, we need my book-bud to talk books with :)
And just in case you didn't read Seekerville yet, Pam's over there today! I asked her if there would be a book 3 and she said yes! Mysterious and heretofore unheard from 2nd oldest brother Caleb!
Sorry, I didn't mean to highjack Lisa's book review day I really do want to read it!

    3. And you heard it here first, folks, thanks to our intrepid reporter, Tracey! Well, first after Seekerville, I guess. Dashing over there now.

    5. Plenty of sparks and misunderstandings happen between Connor & Quinn. It was fun to see how they overcome those challenges and bond as brothers. Frankly, I'm still partial to Conner! Quinn is a great second runner, but his heart was tangled with Kiera a from the moment she confronted him. Loved watching these two fall in love....kicking & screaming all the way....lol!!

You must read this Kav, the sooner, the better! That way you can clear up the mystery of Quinn for yourself :-)

  8. I think I like single dad stories best over single moms...father roles are just as vital in a child's life and I'm glad authors are tackling more of these! :-)

    1. And this one is so good because Jax and Brody are really strangers. And what an age to take over parental duties...the terrible twos. Bwahahahaha! Good luck, Trixi.

  9. Oh my, just reading about the book had my heart going "you are going to love this book". Then I read your review and I'm like "gotta read it". As you know, as an old Army brat I have this special thing for men of the military. Add to it an adorable 3 year old and then conflict with a woman that turns romantic and I'm hooked.

Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of this fabulous book!
