This Sunday blog post was postponed by not one but two tornadoes! Up here in Canada! We don't do tornadoes. Two communities were devastated -- a total of 275 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged and many more with significant damage. At last count approx 800 people left homeless. There were injuries -- some critical -- but, thankfully, no deaths. And one of the tornadoes wiped out a hydro station and turned hydro towers into twisted piles of metal, not to mention knocking down hydro poles like a game of dominoes. So...no electricity, no internet, barely any cell service Friday through Monday morning. And that's why I'm late posting the results from last week's giveaways.
Oh, and apologies for not replying to people's comments from Friday afternoon on...I did tally every one into the draws as well as the email entries -- just didn't think it made sense to reply after a 3 day lag.
So, without further ado....

Been so worried about you, Kav! So Glad you are ok.
ReplyDeletecongrats to the winners!
Thanks, Jackie. This weekend was a surreal experience all round.
DeleteHad been worried about you! Living in an area in which tornadoes are common, especially in the Spring, I am so sorry to hear of the extensive damage to homes and utilities in your area. They make one feel totally helpless. Glad you are okay and prayers for those less fortunate!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, CC. Losing hydro and internet is an inconvenience and makes a person feel vulnerable but all those people who lost their homes and precious family memories...I can't even. Prayers for them are certainly appreciated.
DeleteGlad you're ok. Tornadoes are scary.
ReplyDeleteCongrats winners!
Thanks, Jana Leah! Scary and devastating!
DeleteTrixi and I were so worried on FB and hoped it was just computer woes, but never would've imagined this! I'm so sorry for y'all having to go through this, especially after having just gone through Florence! SO thankful you're ok! Prayers for the homeless and injured. I'm so sad, bc if not for God's grace it could've been us. 😢
ReplyDeleteWacky weather this year! And I thought about you Florence folks and wondered what it would be like to live in an area that anticipates this kind of thing regularly. I can't even...and thank you for your prayers. Shock is starting to wear off and folks are trying to figure out what to do next. And where are they all going to live while their homes are rebuilt? We have a really low vacancy rate.
DeleteHappy to hear you are safe!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the winners!
Thanks, Caryl!
DeleteWhew, breathing a sigh of relief, been praying you were ok. I did not here a single thing on the news about this, it never crossed my mind it could be weather reated! I'm glad all is well with you and so sorry for those who are homeless and in need. Prayers for them all!
ReplyDeleteOur usual weather issues tend to happen in the winter when it's expected to lose power a time or two but this one was totally out of left field!
DeleteCongrats to everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy mum lives in Smiths Falls so she had no power and was 20 minutes from both tornadoes. Scary!!
Yes -- it sure was scary! You don't think it will happen here!
DeleteKav, so very sorry to hear about the tornados! Since I live in Kansas here in the US, I know the devastation -- and fear -- they can cause. So thankful you are okay!
ReplyDeleteOooh -- you are so brave to live in tornado country! All I could think of this weekend was the book Storm Front by Susan May Warren. It's way more fun reading about it then living in the midst of it. lol
DeleteWould have never expected something like that, Kav. So sorry to hear about the tornadoes and devastation. Glad you are alright.
ReplyDeleteI know -- strange weather this year and they say our winter is going to be nasty too. Mother Nature seems to be in a major snit.
DeleteOh my goodness, Kav!! I did wonder where you had gone. So glad you are ok! Tornadoes are certainly crazy. I have had a few go around us and one that made a mess of the farm I grew up on. Thanks for letting us know. :)
ReplyDeleteYou realize how big a part technology plays in your life when you're suddenly cut off cold turkey. And I missed watching the ACFW Gala live -- but I did watch the recording this afternoon. :-)
DeleteSo thankful you are ok my book twin. Congratulations to the winners.
ReplyDeleteMe and all my books are safe and sound. The library is open any time you want to come round. lol
DeleteOh Kav, I knew something was wrong but never thought of tornadoes. I have been so concerned. I am so sorry for those affected.
ReplyDeleteSeriously -- who would think of tornadoes in Ontario? Not us!
DeleteGlad you're safe!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachael!
DeleteOh wow, that is so unfortunate! I am glad people are physically okay, but how devastating to have so much damage and homes ruined. Prayers!
