Silent Shadows

GIVEAWAY
WALTERS, NATALIE
SILENT SHADOWS

Pecca Gallegos moved to the tiny town of Walton, Georgia, to protect her son and escape the dangerous lifestyle that once defined her. When a series of strange circumstances evolve into threats, Pecca finds herself confiding in an unlikely ally -- her stubborn patient.

Army veteran Colton Crawford is desperate to recover from the undiagnosed disorder that is ruining his life, and his instincts are on high alert when threats against his nurse and her son force him to take action. But Colton's involvement only ramps up the danger when he uncovers a family secret revealing that whoever is after Pecca is closer -- and more deadly -- than they realized.

With this suspenseful new story, Natalie Walters welcomes you once more to Walton, Georgia, where everyone knows your name -- but no one knows your secret.

My Review:

Whoa -- this romantic suspense was so good I've been stupefied into a state of dumbfounded speechlessness. But, since I can't end my review here, I'll try to rally a few words. :-)

First -- the profound message that is woven into every nook and cranny of this story. "...when we face hardships, whether by our own making or through circumstances beyond our control, that's when we have to turn everything over to God -- because only he has enough grace to turn our messes into blessings."

This is Colton's struggle as he tries to come to grips with his new reality. He's so focused on his disability that he's allowed it to define him from the inside out. And, oh, but that man is stubborn! Watching Pecca work her magic on him was fainting couch swoonworthy! Cue the fans and ready the smelling salts because there are some delightfully toe-curling scenes that are read-over-again-and-again perfection.

Despite the intensity of the suspense and the relationship complexities, Walters has included a healthy dose of humour to lighten things ups. Like the first time Pecca and Colton meet. Hilarious! And there's some sweet banter and fumbling try-not-to-show-I'm-attracted moments that still have me grinning. And some other I-am-definitely-attracted-and-I-don't-care-who-knows-it moments that left me weak in the knees.

Love that this story takes place over a matter of weeks rather than the intense few days blitz that's usual in romantic suspense. Lot's of time to develop the romance and build relationships in the community while still building the suspense up in the background. And then, just when I was lulled into a sense of security -- wham -- something creepy happens! I enjoyed the armchair sleuthing workout -- got a bit right, more wrong with one major twist I didn't see coming until it hit me between the eyes. Hence my stupefiedness. :-)

Walters impresses again. A blockbuster ending to a fantastic series.
