September Giveaway -- Week Three

FIRST A WEE BIT O' HOUSEKEEPING
BEFORE WE GET TO THE WINNERS

Speaking of which...I've been asked from time to time how I go about selecting the winners and if they are really random, so this seems to be the perfect time to introduce you to my new randomizer. I had been using a number one (so yes, winners are totally random picks) but then I discovered the Wheel of Names...bwahahaha. It makes me all kinds of happy. Here's a link if you want to see it. https://wheelofnames.com
So I type the names in for each giveaway and spin the wheel and...tada...a winner is chosen. It's much more fun than the boring old black and white numbers one. Once a name is picked as a winner I remove it from the other giveaway draws that week (if they are entered in more than one) because I have an unwritten rule (my blog, my rules) that a person can only win one book a week.

Oh, and also, to further increase the randomness of it all, I type in the week's giveaway titles into the wheel first and do draws for the order I'm going to draw from...like which title which will be done first, second etc. So  it's a random pick instead of a date ordered one..if that makes sense. :-)

SECOND HK ITEM: It's come to my attention that the 'follow it' subscribe thingy isn't working -- as in it's not always (or never!) notifying subscribers of my blog posts. Gah! Sometimes I hate technology. Since blogger is no longer sending notifications either it's a bit of a dilemma. My only solution so far is to add the link to my blog post in each of my Good Reads reviews, so if you follow me on GR, and you keep up with your updates there that can work as a giveaway notification too. Here's my GR link: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/6025638-kav

THIRD HK ITEM: And that brings me to the future of this blog. Since many people can't comment (including me if I'm on my Mac!) I've been trying to figure out where to go from here. Do I quit and call it a day? Or try to figure out if there's another blogging platform that's user friendly for dummies :-) aka, no coding required. I've also toyed with the idea of moving to book tube, but that's another huge technical learning curve I imagine. If you are a blogger (especially if you blog using a Mac) would you mind telling me what platform you use? And how difficult it is to work on? I'd like to make some sort of decision this fall. Thanks!

WON BY CARYL

WON BY SYLVIA

WON BY ABIGAIL HARRIS

WON BY RUBYNREBA

WON BY JACKIE SMITH

WON BY LUCY

You know the drill: winners will be contacted if they left their email address in a comment, otherwise it's up to the winner to contact me at kavluvstoreadATyahooDOTca (please note it's ca as in Canada not com)
From time to time a winner and I do not connect so I have a one month time frame on giveaway wins. If I haven't been able to reach you within 30 days of your win, it will be forfeited. This has happened a few times now so, please, DON'T BE SHY -- CONTACT ME IF YOU DIDN'T LEAVE AN EMAIL OR IF I HAVEN'T BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN REACHING YOU!

Books will be ordered within a week of receiving your mailing address (or email address for ebooks) and I'll email you to confirm your book is on its way. Give it a full month before inquiring on the status of an order to allow for processing and shipping times.

    1. Bwahahah -- us non-geeks can huddle together quietly in the corner reading. :-)

  2. Congrats to all the book winners, happy reading!
    1) I looked at the wheel of names and that looks fun, but I'm curious will it work for RC week when you can have 100 names on it in 1 day? It'd be a big wheel!
    2) I bookmarked Best Reads on my PC and my kindle, I don't wait for a daily email, I look at it first thing in the morning. I think the issue came in when you knew it was going away awhile back and you recommended we resubscribe. I was getting 2 a day so I just eliminated one so now I get none, but like I said, I go to this blog daily anyway. :) I would see your link on your Goodreads review though, so that sounds like a good idea for those who need reminding who use it.
    3) I'm no help at all when it comes to blogging platforms, but I hope you can figure it out. We have so much fun here talking about books and seeing what's new!
Happy reading weekend Kav, and thanks for all you do for Christian fiction!

    1. Oy -- good point about RC week (which is coming up in another week, by the way) I'll have to use the boring old number generator for those giveaways, I think. lol

    2. Ah, thanks for bookmarking the blog, Tracey. Hoping the GR link will be a good short-term fix. I love all the book talking camaraderie here as well.

  3. I just thought of wordpress.org I know several authors/reviewers use it. Whether it's compatible with MAC I don't know, but worth looking into :)

    1. Yes, I've been looking at Word Press. I group blogged on that platform but we had a techie person who oversaw it all and when it was my turn I always needed help. Every single time. lol But it looks like there might be kind of template things you can purchase and add to your word press blog and that would take care of teh technical stuff I don't know anything about.

  4. Congrats and happy reading! Re the comments, like Tracey, I just have you bookmarked and, again, it seems WordPress pops up in my selection of author newsletters. As I was one who originally couldn't comment after Google changed some settings, I was able to finally and easily add just your site to an approved list to be tracked by Google. At least for Microsoft Edge, go to the top right screen area of browser, hover over dots, click for settings and more, and do an update. I am not a techie.

    1. I still don't know what Microsoft Edge is. lol But I'm glad you got it to work. It's frustrating because it's different with different browsers and types of computers and...gah!

    2. Microsoft Edge is the web browser that came on our new desktop computer, which replaced our old one that finally died. We have also used Firefox browser in the past. My Iphone has Safari browser....can't post using it. I think the problem is Google has just gotten more restrictive and wanting access to follow. Maybe if you have their Chrome browser then no problem. I am giving my very vague and non-tech understanding.

  5. As for leaving a comment on your blog.....if I am on my computer (laptop or desktop), I have to open Google Chrome and sign into my Google account (or make sure I'm already signed in) to be able to add my comment. It does not work with Firefox at all.

If I am on my Kindle Fire, I don't have to do any of that as I am able to leave a comment without having to do anything extra.

Technical stuff is funny that way sometimes without it making sense! I come to your blog every day, so it's not a problem for me to not get notified via email. I hope you can find an easier/better laid out format because I would seriously miss "seeing" you each day :-( I wonder if you could reach out to some authors to find out what they use? Do you know any other bloggers you could ask? I wished I could help, but I have no clue how to set up or run a blog. :-(

    1. Well, it makes sense, I guess because blogger is a google ....thingy (like my techie talk?) I use safari on my Mac, wonder if I switched to ggogle chrome if it would work?

  6. Sorry for all the troubles various ones are having with commenting on your blog, Kav. I know that must be very frustrating for you. I don't have trouble -- so far, knock on wood :) Hope you can figure something out. Love your blog! :)

  10. I would do the exact same thing, lol, taking the name out of the rest of the draws for the week if they’ve won something already. Keeping it fun for everyone by giving more chances to more people😉
And I don’t know about getting notifications on blog posts or anything and don’t have one of my own, so I wouldn’t be any help there, lol. I just make stopping by your blog a daily habit of mine😂 It’s something I look forward to each morning! 📚❤️
