The Bachelor's Unexpected Family

GIVEAWAY
CARTER, LISA
THE BACHELOR'S UNEXPECTED FAMILY

Second Chance Family

Young widow Kristina Montbomery moves to Kiptohanock, Virginia, hoping it will give her and her teenage son, Gray, a fresh start. She longs for the peace and quiet only a small town can provide. But her plans are thwarted by her new neighbor, Canyon Collier, a former Coast Guard pilot and a crop duster. Gray is instantly drawn to the pilot and his teenage niece, Jade -- and Kristina's not far behind. She and Canyon are soon bonding over parenting their charges and their spark becomes undeiable. Could it be that the spirited pilot is just what Kristina needs to teach her heart to soar again?

My Review:

If you have been following Lisa Carter's Love Inspired novels, you'll be happy to return to Kiptohanock, Virginia and the interesting characters that make up this small town with a big heart. Despite the familiar location and some familiar faces, The Bachelor's Unexpected Family is a standalone story but if you're a fan of the Duer family from previous books, you'll be happy to connect with them again in this one.

Carter explores the complexities of letting go in this emotional novel of love and loss and having the courage to love again. Kristina and Canyon are both living in the past -- in different ways. Kristina is rooted in the memories of her life before her husband's death while Canyon struggles to overcome the sins associated with the Collier name.

Honestly, there were times when I wanted to smack Kristina upside the head because she is so fixated on the past that she can't even see what's in her present never mind the potential of any future. And she's at risk of losing her son over irrational fears that spur her into overprotective mama bear mode. Love how Gray challenges her, goading her into facing truths she's been burying for years. And she's good at drawing him out of his reclusive tendencies. Everyone can see that these two are perfect for each other -- including their teens -- but this hero and heroine don't make it easy on anyone.

Real and raw and emotionally satisfying.

  1. Single parenting is hard, but throw a teen in the mix and you've got enough angst to fill a bathtub...lol! Finding middle ground sounds like the perfect combination for the beginnings of romance :-)
