Out of the Ordinary

GIVEAWAY
TURANO, JEN
OUT OF THE ORDINARY

Working as a paid companion may be quite commonplace, but Miss Gertrude Cadwalader's eccentric employer makes her ob unpredictable, to say the least. She finds herself carrying out an array of highly unusual tasks, including wearing peculiar outfits and returning items the woman pilfered. But when the wealthy Mrs. Sinclair catches Gertrude sneaking around the Sinclair yacht with some of the missing items in her possession, she immediately jumps to the wrong conclusion.

Shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair is caught in the middle of a misunderstanding between his mother and Gertrude, but he can't help coming to his friend's defense. Even as he hopes their friendship might become something more. Harrison is unprepared for the outlandish escapades that seem to follow the lovely, anything-but-ordinary Gertrude at every turn.

My Review:

"God doesn't expect His children to live ordinary lives, but extraordinary ones." (p 123)

Aptly titled because there is nothing ordinary about the characters or the situations found within the pages of Out of the Ordinary! Turano's humour is as absurdly quirky as ever -- in every exacting detail. From the outlandish character names to the crazy circumstances that riddle the plot. And the witty dialogue -- oh la la -- digs delivered with perfect decorum, banter that will leave a reader grinning and outrageous conversations that made my head spin. You need your wits about you when you commence reading this fantastical tale.

Everything Harrison is delectable. From his interesting choice of apparel to his endearing cluelessness around women. He's noble and kind and a works hard at managing the family's shipping business. The ladies flock around him with dollar signs hidden beneath their coquettish fluttering eyelashes. His one true female friend is Gertrude who is equally kind and hard working. But neither dare venture towards romance until family and friends enthusiastically do their utmost to bring them together. And then it's all madcap lunacy as Harrison, egged on by his equally clueless best friend, attempts to woo Gertrude using his sisters' romance novels as a guide. The results are...surprising. And hilarious.

  9. Ooh! I so need this one. :) I usually get Turano's books close to when they are released, but this time around, I had too many books waiting to be read before I could read this one. I love the quote you shared from the book. Simple, but also profound.

  10. Okay, so why do I feel like the ONLY reader in the universe to not have read a single Turano book? It's not that I haven't read some great books or that I'm lacking reading material because just the opposite is true. And I'm certainly not willing to give up my avid reader card, in fact, you'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands...lol! It's a matter of lack of opportunity since review books take priority nowadays; a problem that's soon to be remedied. You will be happy to note, I will redeem myself by reading/reviewing a novella set put out by Turano, Connealy & Hunter entitled "All For Love" in May! Yes, they contain novellas set before their full length novels which are currently free on Kindle. I intend to enjoy it and discoverer Jen's writing for myself :-)

    1. Novellas are such a great way to meet new authors! And that's an awesome group to be sharing a novella collection! It's so hard to keep current with now favourite authors while trying to meet new-to-me authors as well. And then when you do have time to meet a new-to-me author and you love them then you have their backlist to add to your reading lists and....it's a wonder we all haven't had reader breakdowns! lol Good luck, Trixi.

    2. But, Kav, I experience reader breakdowns WEEKLY!! I guess there are worse problems to have.

  15. Jen Turano's books never fail to make me feel good when I read them. They always make me laugh because of the delightful characters, witty banter, and unusual (to put it mildly) situations in which they find themselves. She is one of my favorite authors. Besides all that, Out of the Ordinary also has a great faith message. No need to enter me in the drawing since I already have a copy.
