WARREN, SUSAN MAY
TROUBLED WATERS
With their past tearing them apart, it will take a storm to bring them together...
Billionaire Ian Shaw can have everything he wants -- except a happy ending. Or at least that's what it feels like with his fortune recently liquidated, his niece missing, and the woman he loves refusing to speak to him. Despite her love for Ian, Sierra Rose knows he has no room in his life for her as long as the mystery of his missing niece goes unsolved. Sierra has solved it, but a promise to the girl to keep her whereabouts secret has made it impossible to be around Ian.
When Sierra needs funds to repair the damaged PEAK chopper, Ian offers a fundraising junket for large donors on his yacht in the Caribbean. But the leisurely excursion turns into a nightmare when a rogue wave cripples the yacht and Ian and Sierra find themselves washed up on a strange, empty shore.
It will take guts for the PEAK team to rescue the duo. But it will take a miracle to rescue Ian and Sierra's relationship.
My Review:
"I recognize that look. Defeat. Broken and at the end of yourself." (p 321) That perfectly describes me all through this book! Bwahahaha! Seriously tummy-tied-in-pretzel-knots emotional angst of a read. Warren put this romance-loving reader through her paces with not one but two heart-crushing love stories.
And once again I'm left clamoring for more when it comes to Jess and Pete. Honestly, those two are killing me!!! This might be a good place to recommend reading the Montana Rescue books in order since relationships carry over from one book to the next. You could read Troubled Waters as a standalone, but you will feel ever excruciating nuance more if you've been following the team from the very beginning. :-)
So, back to Pete and Jess who have been dancing around each other forever (or so it seems) and they did make some toe-curling, fainting couch swoonworthy progress...until Warren slammed them with harsh reality. Sigh. It shouldn't bother me so much, I know. They are only fictional characters --oh, who am I kidding? There is no 'only' when it comes to the people this author brings to life in her books. And it looks like Pete and Jess (and me) will have to wait a while longer to get our happily ever after. Sigh.
But I can be okay with that (somewhat) because Ian and Sierra finally wrangle their way back to each other. Oy. My heart hurt soooooo much for them! Sierra, bound by an impossible sense of honor and loving Ian so completely and deeply for so long. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is so openly vulnerable that everyone notices...except Ian. Gah! He's his own worst enemy. Compulsively organizing everything because he needs to be in control. All the time. He has to learn to let go and find God before any of us have a hope of healing Sierra's broken heart.
Once again Susan May Warren dazzles with intense, faith-fueled and action-packed romance.

ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most frustratingly, twisty tied, and convoluted series I've read to date! Seriously, can't Warren leave these poor characters to their blissful happily-ever-after?? LOL...actually all this romantic angst is SO worth it because she draws you so completely into the stories and characters that you feel like you need to console them...and they are fictional...heehee!! I have no idea how she manages to knock each book out of the park. I'm so glad Ian and Sierra FINALLY got together they were so frustratingly stubborn....I wanted to knock them upside the head...lol! Now, will she leave them be...guess we'll find out in the final book 'eh?? 😉
ReplyDeleteBwahahaha! Yes, I think she'll let them be. After all, she still has Jess and Pete to torture. :-) I love the way she grabs us readers and tortures us right along with her characters...and keeps us coming back for more!!!
DeleteI've been wanting to read this series! KAV, thank you for the great review and the opportunity.
ReplyDeletepsalm103and138atgmaildotcom
It's an awesome series, Caryl. Good luck.
DeleteI could not agree more, Ian is his own worst enemy, Sierra is a true prize for him! Pete and Jess, that storyline is driving me crazy as it is drawn out again and again! Two books away! I can tell you by way of recommendation I have read an ARC of book five, Storm Front, and it's my favorite of the series so far. Ty and Brette's story, it kind of took me by surprise because this couple wasn't really on my radar, but I'm in love with it. Ty is my favorite kind of hero, loved every thing about him! It will be out May 1st so get to it as soon as you can, I think I can guarantee you'll love this one, but we must compare notes to be sure :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to say, don't you think Dex deserves his own story? I think I read somewhere SMW was surprised by how many people loved Dex. I love a man with a good attitude and sense of humor even in the worst of circumstances.
DeleteYes to Dex needing his own story. There's unplumbed depths to that man they we need to explore.
DeleteNoooo...to having to wait two books for Jess and Pete. (banging head against table) Sigh. I'm thrilled to hear how much you adore Ty's story though. I know I will too and it comes out pretty soon. Eeep! Will definitely compare notes with you when I read it.
Tracey, I too, read an ARC of Storm Front. And like you, Ty wasn't even on my radar. I'm glad Warren gave us their story, though. For me, I shed a lot of years for Brette...I know, I'm a softie for these characters who have become so real to me :-)
DeleteKav, I really hope you have Storm Front your radar. I want your thoughts on it as well!
I shed tears.....NOT years!! Autocorrect strikes again :-)
DeleteI so agree with you Trixi, I was prepared not to like Brette after she disappeared, but her backstory, wow! Another wonderful lesson about not judging without all the facts, or things I don't understand!
DeleteYou guys are killing me! Storm Front was one of the books that kept coming up during the Reader's Choice week.
DeleteLove a book full of twists and turns. cheetahthecat1986ATgmailDOTcom
ReplyDeleteThis is the book for you then, Kim. Good luck.
DeleteSusan May Warren is one of my favorite authors! She just draws you in to where you are so invested in the story and characters that you just can't put her books down. And once your done with a book....well, you just come away craving for more! Thanks for the great review, Kav, and the chance to win this book!! ~Alison Boss
ReplyDeletenj(dot)bossman(at)gmail(dot)com
Yes to all you said...and a reader goes into mourning at the conclusion of a book!!!! Good luck, agboss.
DeleteI am so envious of Trixi & Tracey for reading so many books in this series! I am slowly collecting them on my Kindle and want to read the entire series. Please count me in, Kav...Love your review!
ReplyDeletejacsmi75 at gmail dot com
It's an incredible series, Jackie. I can't believe you haven't read the ones you have. That's discipline! Good luck.
DeleteJackie, honestly, if I could have been able to wait for the entire series to come out before reading each one I would! It's one of those that's best to read all at once because (to me anyway) it's frustrating to wait so long between each book. There's just so much packed into each installment! Not that there is cliffhangers so much as wanting to resolve everything without waiting AGES for the conclusion. You can read them as stand alone of course, but I think a reader would find more satisfaction in reading them all. Character depth and knowing the backstories help tremendously!
DeleteI only read these ahead of time because I'm on Susans street team.
But this is also one of those series where you have no problem picking up the next book and remember everything you've gone through with the characters up to that point. :-)
DeleteYes, that is true Kav. I'm not saying you CAN'T read each book as it comes out, it's just for me better to read them all at once. Only me and my opinion anyway. Each reader does things as they see fit :-)
DeleteAnd there is no right or wrong way to read a book series either ;-)
DeleteI just read the first book in this series and loved it. Hannahweber500 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteAnd they keep on being that lovable. :-) Good luck, Hannah.
DeleteYes, PAH-LEEZE!! From January until now has gone by so fast. It's hard to believe this released in Jan. and I still haven't read it prior to SMW's upcoming release in May. I always feel like I have time and then it's gone!
ReplyDeletetlhcoupon(at)Hotmail(dot)com
I know! I'm just getting this one in before Storm Front releases. And that's not bad...five months between releases. Good luck, Terrill.

ReplyDeleteI've only read one of this series but it's enough to know that this is Susie May doing what she does best!!!
I don't know how she does it -- builds a community and characters that a reader will follow anywhere...including into the depths of despair! Good luck, Debra.
