Seconds to Live

GIVEAWAY
SLEEMAN, SUSAN
SECONDS TO LIVE

When cybercriminals hack into the U.S. Marshal's Witness Protection database and auction off personal details to the highest bidder,  the RED Team led by FBI Agent Sean Nichols begins a high-stakes chase to find the hacker.  But before he can even get started, the first witness is targeted and barely escapes with her life. Sean believes Phantom, an obsessed hacker who previously outwitted the top minds in the field, is behind the attack, and Sean needs this witness's help, as she's the person who has come closest to discovering Phantom's identity.

Trouble is, she's a witness under the care of US Marshal Taylor Mills, and Sean is reluctant to work with the captivating marshal who knows who knows his deepest. But Phantom claims he knows where the witness is hiding and will kill her, so to stop the hacker, Sean and Taylor must work through their personal pain and learn to trust each other...The seconds are ticking down before someone dies.

My Review:

If you took every great police procedural TV Show you can think of (Bones. Castle, Criminal Minds, NCIS etc) and smooshed them all together you'd end up with this book.  :-)

Love the team dynamics, the multi-agency camaraderie, the techie talk and the way each officer lends his or her own special talents to the pursuit of justice. The suspense is riveting with lots of insider 'shop talk' that made it all the more fascinating.

And then there's Sean and Taylor's complicated relationship. They've never met but have developed an online friendship during the past half year or so after working a case together -- from opposite coasts. Shared more than they might have otherwise thanks to the anonymity of a tech based friendship. Mercy, but the sparks start sizzling from the second they actually meet in person! But they both come with a lot of baggage and an equal determination to remain 'just friends.'

While both are Christians they have a hard time trusting God and tend to over plan and micro-manage as a way of compensation. I can totally relate to that! So appreciated their journey towards complete surrender. Let go and let God is my mantra for 2020 and the inspirational thread in this novel was a pointed nudge in my direction. :-)

And -- woohoo -- first book in a new Susan Sleeman series (Homeland Heroes.) Can't wait to hear each member's story -- especially looking forward to Mac's. He seems to have bewitched me with his Texan twang and gentlemanly manners. But it's Kiley's story that's up next in Minutes to Die coming out in August. Love the campy covers for this series! And the urgency-riddled titles. Pretty packaging for the thrilling adventures inside.
