The Timepiece

GIVEAWAY
LEWIS, BEVERLY
THE TIMEPIECE

As the only daughter, Sylvia Miller of The Tinderbox has always held a special place in her Old Order family, one Adeline Pelham jeopardizes when she shows up at the Millers' Hickory Hollow farm. It isn't that Adeline means to be a threat, but her very existence is a reminder of the painful secret that has so recently upended the Miller household. And with Sylvia and her mother still struggling to come to terms with that news, this is a challenging time to welcome an Englisher -- especially this Englisher -- into their midst.

Despite the Millers' unexpected hospitality, Adeline is well aware that she's treading on Sylvia's turf, and she feels guilty about doing so when Sylvia is grappling with issues of her own. Not only is Sylvia trying to rebuild her trust in her father, but she's uncertain what to make of her once-promising engagement to Titus Kauffman, who hasn't pursued her since she confronted him. Adeline wishes she could help Sylvia, but she's not sure that either she or Sylvia is ready for that level of closeness in their relationship.

Can God make something good come out of the mistakes of the past? Or does Adeline's arrival mark one too many surprises for the Millers and their Amish community?

My Review:

This is a sequel to The Tinderbox and you'll definitely need to read that book before this one since it's very much a continuation of the Miller family's story. The first novel ended on quite the cliffhanger so I was eager to get back among the Amish of Hickory Hollow to get some resolution and the author does a wonderful job of weaving all those loose threads into a satisfactory conclusion.

Beverly Lewis has such a timeless, classic approach to storytelling. She has a frank, no nonsense style that's perfectly suited to this genre. Multiple points of view showcase the drama from all sides and kept me engrossed right to the very end. And I loved the recurring role the community's Wise Woman continues to play as receptive listener and gentle adviser.

A beautiful story about family and faith and the power forgiveness has to affect them both. Beverly Lewis delivers another trademark inspirational story

  10. You know me, I hate cliffhangers at the end of a book...gah!! Especially when you have to wait so long for the next one. So of course I need "The Timepiece" to tie those loose ends up from "The Tinderbox"! I

  11. As reported by Stanford Medical, It is really the ONLY reason women in this country live 10 years longer and weigh on average 42 lbs lighter than we do.

(By the way, it really has NOTHING to do with genetics or some secret diet and EVERYTHING around "how" they are eating.)

BTW, What I said is "HOW", not "what"...
