Rising Danger

GIVEAWAY

AGEN, JERUSHA
RISING DANGER

It's up to a K-9 handler and her canine partner to stop a bomber before it's too late.

Someone's planting explosives on dams in the Twin Cities, and Bristol Bachmann and her bomb-sniffing dog must move quickly to find them before everything ends up underwater. That means relying on the dams' supervisor -- an ex-boyfriend Bristol never thought she'd see again. Hopefully Remington Jones has grown up from the rakish charmer she knew in her academy days. Because lives now depend entirely on them.

It's an environmental terrorist who wants the dams gone, and his bid to set the waters free has lethal consequences. When he sees Bristol and her K-9 working to stop him, he sets his sights on them. Can they evade him in a lethal game of cat and mouse and protect the cities from devastating destruction before the clock runs out?

My Review:

From the compelling opening scene to the hair-raising conclusion, Rising Danger delivers a page-turner (or compulsive listener in my case) triumph.

Any K-9 story is always a lure for me and Labrador Retriever Toby is the true hero of this one. Loved the training details and getting the inside scoop on the day-in-the-life of a K-9 team. I fell in love with Toby's goof ball side as well as his focused on-the-job persona. His partner, on the other hand, took time to warm up to.

That's because Bristol is hyper diligent when it comes to...well everything she does. She has a need to be in control, a compulsion actually. And an unforgiving nature. Which becomes all too evident when she's forced to work with her ex-boyfriend on the most important case of her career. My, but she gives poor Remington a hard time right from the get go and doesn't let up for the majority of the book.

Rem has changed since his police academy days. Back then, his devil-may-care, roguish ways got him expelled and caused him to lose the woman he loved. But Rem has become a Christian in the intervening years and his new faith has transformed his life. If only Bristol could let her guard down long enough to notice! There's plenty of angst in their romance and I was solidly on team Rem all the way!

Love how the author takes the time to develop solid faith threads that bring extra depth and meaning to the story. So many wonderful truths spoken (not preached) into the lives of these characters (and readers!)

Intense suspense, with tons of action and a hair-raising, doomsday kinda vibe from the environmental terrorist angle had me holding my breath through most of the read. But all that intensity is punctuated by lighter moments too and I especially enjoyed getting to know the  Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency's diverse all-female team. (Yay, girl power!) I'm looking forward to reading their stories in future novels.

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Eleanor Caudill and enjoyed the way she captured the intensity of the suspense and the emotions of the characters. Really plummeted me into the heart of the story.

Side note: This is the second book in Love Inspired's new Love Inspired Trade line and I'm loving these longer, meatier reads. They are only released in ebook and audible format. I know the plan is to release one book a month but I can't figure out how to source them. They don't seem to have a series tag on the Harlequin site and I'm not sure how to check what's coming up next and when. Anyone have any inside scoops for me? I don't want to miss out!

  1. This is what I found when I typed "Love Inspired Trade" in my internet browser (one link took me to the Harlequin site): The Widows of Champagne by Renee Ryan (sale date July 27) & The Gathering Table by Kathryn Springer (sale date September 28th). I can't find anymore other than those two no matter how hard I tried! Even Amazon is being secretive.I can do a bit more scouting but I'm not sure I'll find out any more than what I did. I wished they would come out in print too though 😟

Anyway, count me in for "Rising Danger"!

    1. wow, that's more than I found out. I typed those title into Harlequin and they both come out as Love Inspired Novel as the series but you can't search for that series on their site. Gah! And there has to be at least one other one because they come out every month and we're missing August now. I found Widows of Champagne on the audible site and have it in my wish list now. Thanks for your research, Trixi.

Oh BIG NEWS -- I subscribed to the Love Inspired newsletter and it said that this series will be AVAILABLE IN PAPERBACK AT WALMART.

      Good luck, Trixi!

    2. I wonder why they're only available at Walmart in print? Weird! You would think they would want to generate sales through their own site.

I'll look around more but can't guarantee anything, lol!

    3. Well, I tried! 😟 I only found the two I mentioned so I'm not sure what other titles or authors will have Trade length novels. I guess we'll be surprised! 😁

    4. Surprised only if we're lucky enough to stumble upon the book because how will we know where to look?!

Re Walmart -- I bet they made a special deal with them -- exclusive rights to the paperbacks would increase sales at those stores. I'm just happy they are on audible 'cause most LIs aren't. Thanks again for doing the searching, Trixi! You rock!

  3. Ok, intrepid reporter on duty here! Love Inspired only has four "novels" coming out this year. (LI also has there own new page too) Here's the link to the 4 novels;
    https://www.loveinspired.com/shop/brand/love-inspired-trade.html?rg=previousRelease&rg=comingSoon&pg=1&pz=12&ord=podate%20ASC%2Ctitle_copy%20asc&vm=grid

Just copy and paste and there you go!
Where it says "our books" at the top you can also go to LI's or LIS's. Let me know if you can't get to it and I'll message the link.

So back to Rising Danger! I'm half way through it right now. And you are so right about Bristol's unforgiving spirit! Where's a good attitude adjuster when you need one?! LOL. Poor Remington, the things we endure for love, sigh!

    1. And it's weird because they aren't selling these trade size books themselves. You'll see all the sites on the right where they can be bought. Personally I think they want to up the ebook format sales with these, but who knows?!

    2. Also note under "Our Books" drop down tab, three new categories of Love Inspired books,
Mountain Rescue (6 books) Cold Case (6 books)
      Historical (8 books)
A lot of new authors coming soon :)

    3. Gah -- I posted a long reply -- where did it go?

First, thanks for that website link. Boohoo that there will only be four Love Inspired Novels (not Trade as I'd heard them being called) out this year. Nice variety of themes and genres and they all look compelling.

I see where you mean about the Love Inspired site not linking to the Harlequin website for shopping. Here's my theory. I know there are readers who refuse to buy from Harlequin because of all the other romance lines and their level of heat and content. I'm thinking that this Love Inspired site is a way to distance them from the HQ site so as not to offend folks' sensibilities. So they may lose out in website sales but they'll likely boost vendor sales. At least here's hoping.

I'm excited about the Mountain Rescue and Cold Case series! At first I thought they were just links to books with those themes but it looks like each might be a continuity series? And woohoo to the ton of new authors we get to sample. That website has so inspired me that I'm hopping over to HQ and place my June order.

      Thanks you, oh intrepid reporter!!!!

    4. Oh, your theory makes so much sense!
I still see jokes about people reading Harlequin romances but the LI's are really a different breed of book. Interesting too the cold case and Mountain rescue WILL be available in paperback! Who can figure it out? They are definitely changing things up this year as I have heard they were about to do!

    5. EEEEPPPP!!! NEW Historical....wowowowowowowowowowoowow!!!!

Tracey you get a thousand gold stars for your special snooping skillss!!!!

I guess there was such an outrage when they closed the line that they decided to start it up again....I am a happy camper!!

    6. Hey Trixi, yes to the Historical line! Some familiar names coming back too. And such pretty covers!

    7. Double eeeekkk -- I asked about the Historical in the first post that got eaten. So they are new stories? Not reissues of past books? That is sooooooo exciting!

      Delete
    8. They appear to all be brand new!

    9. The historicals on that page can be ordered from Harlequin also, but you won't find them without knowing the names of the authors or the title because they don't have a historical category listed there. (same applies to the Mountain rescue and cold case books) So just be sure to keep the page link I posted bookmarked on your computer so you can look up there then you can switch over to your account. Around the elbow to get to your thumb as the saying goes :)

  4. OH I'm so sad. :( This new to me author has me excited, but I don't read ebooks. Health just won't let me stay seated at the computer long enough to read like that. This book sounds sooooo good. Good luck to everyone and enjoy the read.

    1. Kay, I'm the same. I don't read ebooks, which is why I love the audible editions. But, a paperback version is available at Walmart === that's the only store selling them -- so next time you're shopping at a Walmart check out the books.
