Embracing Light in Wishing Bridge

GIVEAWAY

HERNE, RUTH LOGAN
EMBRACING LIGHT IN WISHING BRIDGE

Surrounded by love is a good thing.

Rachel Stutzman lost hope when her newborn daughters were stolen. The Amish quilter lived a harsh life in their Old Order church. Unloved. Uncherished. Cast aside. When a shopkeeper finds a possible link between Rachel's twins and an Amish family in Wishing Bridge, she helps guide Rachel's path. A path that could lead to love, hope and freedom...or something more sinister.

As Rachel discovers truths about herself, and the beautiful town that wraps its arms around her, can the town keep her safe from the one person who knows what happened -- and will stop at nothing to keep it from being told? And does she dare admit her growing feelings for Deputy Eric Strassen, a single dad who stands for law and order when she's willing to do anything to get her babies back? Does she dare risk Eric's job -- and his affection -- by telling a truth she abhors?

As the warmth of the town inspires her courage, Rachel knows the truth will set her free. Free to make a new life...in Wishing Bridge.

My Review:

So many surprises tucked into this fourth book in the Wishing Bridge series. It does read well as a standalone, but there are recurring characters from previous novels and a whole town of really wonderful folks who are worth getting to know right from the very beginning so I'd recommend reading the books in order. (Because it's never a bad thing to read a Ruthy book!)

This one packs an emotional punch in Herne's trademark plain-speaking, hope-infusing style. Rachel is so wounded when we first meet her. There's really no other way to describe it. Her back story is heartbreaking as she comes from a very strict (and I might add, skewed) thinking Old Order Amish community. The abuse she suffered is horrific but this is an overcoming story -- the kind this author writes with such compassion and faith.

And, while Rachel comes from the worst possible type of 'faith-based' sect, I appreciated the way the author highlights the contrast in different  communities through the kindness and grace of more liberal thinking Amish groups. Provides lots of scope for discussion on religion vs faith as Rachel works through a host of issues.

That journey! Kleenex box alert because, if you're like me, you'll be tearing up and sniffling by the end of the book.

A redemptive love story steeped in mystery and a hint of danger.

  1. Love Ruth Logan Herne's books and EMBRACING LIGHT IN WISHING BRIDGE sounds like another must read book.

Love when an author can combine so many aspects (like love, mystery and danger) all wrapped in a thread of faith all while pulling on all my emotions. I'm due for a emotional read and have my tissues and chocolate at hand as well as my "do not disturb" sign because I feel this will be a can't put down story.

Thank you for the chance to win a copy. Have a wonderful weekend full of all you wish it to be!
