GIVEAWAY

CALHOUNE, BELLE
THEIR ALASKAN PAST

She broke his heart years ago. But now she needs his help.

Veterinarian Maya Roberts has complicated feelings about her ex -- Iditarod racer Ace Reynolds -- returning to Owl Creek, Alaska. But he's the perfect person to help with her dog rescue. Now they're working together, caught by their tangled past and still-unresolved feelings for each other. But a second chance with Ace isn't just about forgiveness. It means sharing the secret that's kept them apart.

Home to Owl Creek

My Review:

Reunion romance set in Alaska and centered around a dog rescue? Written by Belle Calhoune?! That would be an auto-buy for me and a swoop in and read it the second the book is unboxed. Which is exactly what happened, by the way.

Love the way Belle Calhoune builds a romance and this one packs an emotional punch as Maya struggles with revealing her secret -- the one that broke them up five years ago -- and Ace struggles with unresolved feelings of hurt over that break up. Do they make things easy on each other? No they do not! In a deliciously angsty kind of way, even though they are drawn to each other all over again. Sometimes my heart hurt for them and sometimes I wanted to shake some sense into them so all my readerly emotions were definitely engaged during this read. :-)

And the dogs! All the rescue pups!!! I want to move to Owl Creek and volunteer at the rescue centre now that it's up and running. Then I can get a front row seat at all the goings on in my favourite Alaskan town. All that sigh-worthy romance and the multitude of swoonworthy heroes and the quirkiness of the folks living there. It would be sheer bliss!

An emotionally engaging reunion romance that still has me smiling...and sighing.

Goal Updated: #5 Diversify my reading, #6 Stay current with series
