FUGITIVE AMBUSH
Two convicts on the loose and threats around every corner...
Pursuing a dangerous bail jumper has bounty hunter Hayley Ryan barely escaping an attack by the fugitive. Hunting the same escapee compels Hayley to team up with rival Jack Colter until their manhunt results in the discovery of another criminal -- one who's been missing for years. Can they -- and their uneasy partnership -- survive their search for not one but two notorious escaped felons?
A Range River Bounty Hunters Novel
My Review:
"Uneasy partnership" -- whoooeeeee, you can say that again! There's all kinds of undercurrents zinging around Hayley and Jack. Plus, one romantic trope I'm not a huge fan of but Night wrote it so well that all my swooning got in the way of me being miffed. Bwahahaha! And I'm not going to tell you what it is 'cause that would be a spoiler.
Seriously, the romantic tension in this novel is out of this world. Punctuated by sly flirtations (which aren't really flirtations...or are they?) And the banter...deep dive swoonable! I'm surprised I'm not black and blue from all that losing consciousness. :-)
And does this author ever know how to start off a suspense on a catch-your-breath, nail-biter of a scene. I was hooked and committed from the first page. And the way she's able to deliver that heart pounding adrenal rush of a read is with her exquisite word choice (along with a wild imagination!)
"Her gaze flickered around the shadowy forest surrounding her as instinct, packing a punch as teeth-rattling as any physical blow, screamed at her to do something. Now." (p 8)
Doesn't that catapult you into the urgency of the situation and make you feel like you're warily hunting a fugitive in the middle of nowhere right along with Hayley?! I love being pulled into a story like that. And Night's writing continues to deliver the kind of quality I like to savour. I would have loved listening to this book -- wish more Love Inspired Suspense books were available in audio editions.
Incredible action scenes, lurking danger, the thrill of the hunt and touches of faith all combine to make Fugitive Ambush an unputdownable read.
Side note: While this is the second Range River Bounty Hunters novel, it reads really well as a standalone. This is the author's second bounty hunter series and I'm finding all the details of the job and the way bounty hunters can (and can't) work with police and other law enforcement groups really interesting. Makes for a nice change in my romantic suspense reading.
Goal Update: #6 Stay current with a series, #10 Give unloved tropes a second chance

DeleteI'm reading a suspense right now but I'm being choosy these days because so many are over the top creepy. Fugitive Ambush sounds interesting, especially with the nod to "romantic tension, banter and being deep dive swoonable"! Throw my name in the hat. Thanks for the giveaway Kav!

Yes, I'm noticing tha trend as well. And sometimes I need to give repetitive tropes a rest. I've really enjoyed the novelty of the bounty hunter angle in Jenna Night's stories and this one is so good! Good luck, Tracey!
DeleteI, too, am being choosy...too many SCARY ones. I would like to try Jenna's book....sounds very good! Thanks, Kav and Jenna.

DeletePlease don't tell me it's a love triangle troupe....gah! LOL! But if you got so caught up in swooning to notice, then I'll overlook that too 😂
ReplyDeleteThis story sounds amazing!

Bwahahaha! NOT a love triangle. In fact, I don't think I've ever read a LIS with a love triangle -- just not enough space to fit in that kind of angst along with the suspense plot. I don't think I've talked a lot about my aversion to this trope. Hasn't been much of a thing in my reading but used to be quite popular years ago...like more than a decade ago. Curious? You'll just have to read my book to figure it out. Good luck, Trixi!
