My Review:

originally published in 2009
reissued in ebook format (with new cover) August 2019

I've wanted to read this book for such a long time! I started reading Love Inspired books in 2010ish so I missed the release of this one by a year. I've become a huge fan of Lynette Eason and I really wanted to make my way through her LIS backlist, but since I don't read ebooks some books remained elusive. Until I discovered this gem on audible! Woot! And -- guess what? I loved it just as much as I knew I would!

What has become Eason's trademark edge-of-your-seat flare for suspense is apparent here in one of her earlier works, but it's softened by a nice balance of every day life -- including a burgeoning relationship -- which I found especially alluring. For all the intensity of the suspense there's an unhurried ease about Ethan and Marianna's romance. That doesn't mean it's lacking passion or angst -- both are plentiful -- it just felt like their relationship wasn't racing against the clock the same way the suspense was. Really enjoyed the varied pace. And I loved the way the Deaf culture was intricately woven into every aspect of the story. That added a whole other dimension to an already compelling suspense.

Love Inspired Suspense is reissuing this book with a new cover (though I am assuming the story remains the same) on September 16. Here's the image for the new release: (It's only available in ebook format, so this giveaway is for an ebook edition.

  1. Ooooohhhhh a retro cover!!! I love the old cover as opposed to the new one myself πŸ˜‰

I have LIS on my shelf from waaaaay back into 2006 or 2007 or so and really love the retro vibe to them. I've also read and owned ones from even farther back when they were called Steeple Hill and had mostly white covers. Love seeing the oldies but goodies!

    1. Interesting call on the cover preference. I do like the haunted look on the heroine's face on the retro cover but I like the colours on the redo so I'm good with either. lol

You are definielty a veteran Love Inspired reader, Trixi! Good luck!
