GIVEAWAY RANDOM RETRO READ DAY! |
ORDINARY SNOWFLAKES
Someone has noticed me. A secret admirer? A man with a good heart, who sees how much I actually need help, even though I never admit it? Maybe this is the beginning of a beautiful love story -- a romance full of hope and second chances and love. Maybe...
A secret Santa gift left on Kale Brennan's front porch opens up a fresh view of her ordinary life, and perhaps of God. Maybe she does matter. maybe God sees her -- as does a new-to-town music teacher who has her seven-year-old daughter gushing and her own knees buckling with his killer smile.
But as Kale embraces new possibilities, a staple in her life -- a man who is kind and steady, not to mention necessary for her injured daughter's recovery -- also snatches her attention in an unexpected way. Will the one pursuing her with his secret gift and kind gestures be the one her heart longs for in the end?
My Review:
published in 2016
Psssst...true confession time. I didn't get a chance to read all my new Christmas books before the 25th. I still have a neat little pile of holiday-To-Be-Reads that I tried to tuck away on a safe shelf until later this year. "Shhh," I whispered to them, "you'll be all right here all together. Visit among yourselves and the year will fly by and your reading turn will come in no time! Pinky swear promise."
But one little book didn't like the idea of being overlooked for flashy new 2020 titles. "It's my turn! Now!' she demanded as she jumped off the shelf and landed at my feet. "Ouch!" Of course, I scooped her up and checked her over, prepared to administer emergency first aid if necessary. Luckily, no cracked spine or scratched face or torn pages were evident...BUT...I couldn't help but read a line or two and then, well, I was lost in the world of story and I reasoned that it wasn't Ordinary Snowflakes fault that her promised delivery date had come and gone in the bustle of international postal services. So I give you...the very first Christmas read of the New Year. :-)
First things first. Yes, this is a Christmas story, but it's also so much more than that. It's about how, with just a bit of an attitude adjustment, we can start to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. And how that different viewpoint can completely transform lives. Now, doesn't that make a suitable topic for New Year's reading?
Jennifer Rodewald is a new-to-me-author. I've been longing to read one of her books, especially since some of my most trusted GRs friends all rave about her. So, when I realized she had a sweet little Christmas novella it seemed foreordained that Rodewald and I should bond over a little holiday cheer. :-)
Wowzer! What a great introduction to this author's unique storytelling. I especially appreciated -- basked in, glowed over, goosebumped through -- the exquisite way she wraps Kale's story in a Father's loving arms.
Kale is a worrier. A guilt hoarder. She can be self-deprecating in a wry, humourous way. But deep down she is hurting. And scared. Being the mother of a physically challenged child can be overwhelming. But it's time for Kale to discover her true value -- with the help of two very different men.
Rodewald kept me on romantical tenterhooks as she wove her storytelling magic. This is a book about hope and mercy and the extraordinary love of a God who glories in our very ordinariness.

Delete"ORDINARY SNOWFLAKES" sounds like a perfect book to read any time of the year. Isn't it funny how some times books have a way of saying "read me" regardless of what lists you may have in alphabetical or numerical order. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely cover and wonderful sounding story have me saying "I want to read this one". I've not read this author either but hoping that won't hold true for long.
Appreciate your review and the opportunity to win a copy!

Yes -- this book was definitely opinionated about being read right away. lol Some books are so insistent. Good luck, Kay!
DeleteI read this novella as part of my Christmas reading and really enjoyed it. Jennifer Rodewald's newest book is When I Come Home Again. It continues the story of Craig Erikson, the hunky traveling music teacher. I haven't read it but it's on my "want to" list.

Thanks for that tip, Pam. When I Come Home Again might just be the next Jennifer Rodewald book I read. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteDon't you love it when a book takes you by complete surprise and practically makes you sit and read it all the way through because you can't put it down? Ordinary Snowflakes sounds just like that type of story!
teamob4 (at) gmail (dot) com
It's exactly that type of book, Trixi! And I'm surprised you have any Christmas leftovers -- you read a lot!!!!! Good luck!
DeleteThe more Christmas books I kept pulling off my bookshelves to add to my TBR pile, the more I kept finding! It's like the multiplied right before my eyes, lol!
DeleteSo I will be continuing to read them in between other books (review or otherwise) throughout the year. I may even finish them before next Christmas..haha!
Only by next Christmas you'll have accumulated even more Christmas books and...bwahahaha! I know how these things work.
DeleteI love your reviews! They're so entertaining and funny! I haven't read this book yet, but I recommend The Cupcake Dilemma by the same author. It's adorable, humorous and Valentine's Day themed.
