RAISING HONOR
Could a shared love for little Honor unite their reluctant hearts?
Nothing will stop Ryker Hayes from giving his neglected five-year-old niece the stable home he never had. But to gain custody he must move to Colorado...and prove to Honor's wary foster mother. Charlie Brightwood, he's more than just responsible. As his visits with Honor and Charlie begin to feel more like family time, might Charlie become another reason to stick around for good?
A Colorado Grooms Tale
My Review:
First of all -- that cover! Sold the book to me even before I noted the author. And sweet, little Honor is the heart of this emotional story as the adults in her life grapple with working out what's best for her.
And, whooeeeee, the explosive first meeting between Ryker and Charlie raised my heart rate to dangerous levels. She's the fiercely protective foster mom and he's the uncle determined to get custody. But Ryker doesn't make a good first impression and Charlie's hackles rise and...fireworks ensue! Loved watching these two warily coming together for Honor's sake. But once their barriers are down it doesn't take long for fireworks of another type to start sparking!
A truly beautiful, honest look at the joys and struggles that come with fostering a child. I especially appreciated the positive, respectful way the author portrayed all involved. So often novels concentrate on the brokenness of the system and I have no doubt that's a grim reality. But there are heartwarming success stories as well and it's nice to see them highlighted from time to time.
