A DREAM OF FAMILY
To give a little girl a home...she must take a chance on forgiveness
From the minute Molly Morgan saw sad-eyed little Grace, she longed to give her a happy home. But Molly's struggling bookstore is endangering her adoption chances. Outgoing entrepreneur Derek McKinney has a puppy Grace adores -- and a plan to save Molly's business. But can he and Molly put their troubled past behind them in time to make a family for a lifetime?
My Review:
Anytime a story is set around saving an independent bookstore from an encroaching large chain I'm all in! And emotionally invested 'cause I've had to sit by and watch a number of wonderful independents close their doors because of big conglomerates over the years.
Love the way Weatherholt sets the scene in the first chapter. Molly verging on despair as she faces the results of declining sales in her once thriving business. Not only is she facing financial ruin, but her dream of adoption might be slipping away as well.
I connected with Molly right from the start and I felt like my world was falling apart too! Instant bibliphile bonding. :-) But, as the story progressed I could see how stuck she was, wallowing in passivity and it takes Derek bursting on to the scene to shake a fighting spark back into her. Ha, and that isn't the only spark he ignites.
But, as is so often the case in fictional romance, it's complicated. Derek and Molly have a history (and no, not that kind of history) but Molly has accumulated a whole lot of bitterness over something that happened in their past. Forgiveness and grace play a central role in this love story. Along with the hope of second chances on so many fronts.
Throw in a gangly pup, a darling little girl looking for a forever family and a small town infused with community spirit and you've got the recipe for a heart-tugging story that's sure to satsify.

DeleteI've really enjoyed Jill's books in the past & this one sounds just as delightful! A struggling small bookstore trying to stay afloat against big time companies sounds a bit like the movie "You've Got Mail"....one of my most favorite movies of all time! So I'm already wanting to read "A Dream of Family" :-)

Hi Trixi,
DeleteYou've Got Mail is one of my favorite movies, too!
Ugh, you guys, I despise that movie! Why you ask? Because the children's bookstore doesn't get saved!!!!! And she ends up working for the bully big box retailer. Gah! That is not a happy ending in my book. Bwahahahaha -- yes, I am that much of a book nerd.
DeleteGreat argument, Kav! I still love the movie, especially the ending. I love her face when he shows up at the park. :)
DeleteI would enjoy a chance. I haven’t read this author.
