A Place at Our Table

GIVEAWAY
CLIPSTON, AMY
A PLACE AT OUR TABLE

Running his Amish farm and volunterring at the local fire department keep Jamie Riehl busy. He barely has time to sit at the family table, never mind find someone to date. But when he meets Kayla Dienner, he is smitten. Kayla tries hard to deny her attraction to Jamie. After all, she's spent the last year discouraging her younger brother from becoming a firefigher like the older brother they lost a year ago. When tragedy strikes, and Jamie wants to extinguish any flame between them, can Kayla save the love she was determined to deny?

My Review:

This starts out as a classic love story -- boy meets girl, sparks fly, complications ensue -- but then it morphs into so much more. Because there is one complication that...well, it took my breath away. It had me closing the book in disbelief and dismay because this was so not where I saw things going. At all. And it made my heart hurt. And from that one situation a deeper story blossoms. One where the characters have to stop trying to figure God out and just trust Him. Where they have to face the hard stuff and get through just because it's the right thing...the only thing...to do. Where loving someone is as risky as it gets but also completely and utterly necessary. Because we aren't meant to live this life alone. We were created to love and support one another. And it's hard. And scary. But also thrilling. So, if you like your romance with a bit of kick to it, A Place at the Table is the book for you.

  1. This was my first Amy Clipston book but certainly NOT my last :-) I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Yes, if you are wondering, I asked myself the same question...why did it take me so long to discover this wonderful writer?

    1. I know -- and I have only read five of them...and some of those were novella collections. Luckily my library appears to be well stocked with Amy Clipston so I'll be retro-reading this year. Good luck, CC.

    1. lol -- and I'm late reading this. It was published in 2017 -- fall, I think -- and the next book in the series is due out in the spring. So many books, so little time. Good luck, Terrill.
