HANDS OF GRACE
She's always looked for love in the wrong places. He wants nothing to do with love.
Rita Dunlap has a history of looking for love in the wrong places, but this time, she's got it right. Her heart surgeon boyfriend has hinted at proposing, along with letting her sickly mother live with them once they're married.
But then she learns her boyfriend isn't a doctor at all, but a drug trafficker who's involved her in his scheme. Not only did she get love wrong, but she's unwittingly placed both her and her mother's lives in danger.
Love is the last thing on Officer Daniel Winter's mind. Twice-burned, he's locked up his heart for good. But when he goes undercover as a handyman to protect the cute and quirky Rita Dunlap, he discovers he's not only guarding her and her mother, but his heart as well.
Rita wants to trust Daniel, wants to believe his work around her house doesn't come with a price, but she'll need to let go of her past mistakes to open her heart to the future.
My Review:
"Trusting God means trusting Him with the results even if they're not what you want." (p 146)
So what if your redemption story doesn't end in a happily ever after? That's what's happened to Rita who has forsaken her broken past for the hope of saving grace. She's finally getting things right when it all goes terribly wrong.
Heartbreak and betrayal destroy her new found happiness and threaten her hard won fight to leave the past behind. And then Daniel shows up on her doorstep and her shattered heart begins to mend. Only the reader knows that he's keeping secrets and that rising dread kept me in agonizing anticipatory bibliophile delight waiting for the inevitable crash and burn.
But it's, Rita's mother who stole my heart. She is suffering from Alzheimer's disease and Rita is her primary caregiver...her only caregiver really. Their mother/daughter bond took my breath away. Rita's struggles and sorrow, her determination to take care of her momma despite her frustration and fear...well, it touched me deeply. Anderson puts a compassionate face on a vicious disease, evoking pathos and humour and so much courageous love it brought tears to my eyes.
A poignant 'slice of real life' tale of redemption and hope and the gift of second chances.
My thanks to the author for gifting me with a copy of this book.

There are so many of them with a variety of excellent authors! Good luck, Trixi!
DeleteI particularly loved the faith theme Autumn included in her story. It felt natural and part of the characters normal personality. If the rest of this series follows along the same line, I KNOW I will thoroughly enjoy them!
DeleteI also loved Marry Me me because it's a modern day marriage of convenience story. I hadn't read one of these yet. It was so, so good!!
I'll definitely check Marry Me by Autumn out! And isn't it lovely to find faith themes in Christian Fiction?!
DeleteOnce again, your review touched my heart. What a beautiful way to begin my day. Thank you, Kav!

DeleteGreat 👍 Thank You Kav
DeleteThank you for your review and for bringing "HANDS OF GRACE" to my attention. Sounds like a wonderful story and one I would greatly enjoy having the opportunity to read. Love the quote you started your review with. If that is any indication, then it's definitely most could learn from by reading as well. The mother/daughter connection hits very close to home for me since my mom also had Alzheimer and hubby and I were her full-time caregivers in our home. This would make this an extra special book for me to read.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the opportunity to win a copy!
