Writing with both wit and warmth, Fisher delivers a supremely satisfying conclusion to the popular Deacon's Family series.

My Review:

I'm quietly sobbing into my lace handkerchief because this is the last book in The Deacon's Family series and I'm not ready to let these characters go! I can only hope that Suzanne Woods Fisher continues the pattern and returns to Stoney Ridge for her next series! You can totally read Two Steps Forward as a standalone but if you've been keeping current with the Deacon's family and the Stoney Ridge community you will be over-the-moon ecstatic with this story.

Luke is continuing to find his bearings as the community's newest deacon. I have to say, I rather like his unique leadership style. :-) For all his personal growth, there's still some of the rapscallion boy inside which keep things interesting. Especially when he's dealing with Jimmy Fisher. Pot meet kettle!

While this is largely Jimmy and Sylvie's story -- a funny, angsty, squirm-with-delight kind of  rocky road to romance, we are also treated with Luke and Izzie's continuing love story which touches on some serious subject matter that the author treats with compassion and grace.

Fisher has blessed us with a host of familiar secondary characters who liven things up for Jimmy and Sylvie. Exasperating Edith and boisterous Hank (who made me want to do him bodily harm a time or two) are back to create mayhem and are nicely buffered by Bishop David's wisdom and no-nonsense Fern's pragmatic approach to everything.

A truly scrumptious delight of a read -- well, listen, since I bought the audible version. Rachel Botchan's narration enhanced the storytelling that much more. I'm still in a state of giddy euphoria. Definitely a book I'll want to listen to again.
