Dead-End Detective

GIVEAWAY

FLOWER, AMANDA
DEAD-END DETECTIVE

They were the Two Girl Detective Agency.
Now, one of them is dead, and the other is suspected of murder.

Darby Piper is in shock. Samantha Porter -- her mentor and business partner at Two Girls Detective Agency -- has died in a car crash, and it doesn't look like an accident. In fact, evidence is pointing toward Darby.

Darby had expected to inherit Samantha's half of the agency, but Samantha had recently changed the will to leave it to Tate Porter, her nephew, who returns to town.

Tate is no P.I. He's a veteran, a world traveler, and something of a mystery himself. But as he helps Darby delve into secret histories and real estate development plans, he does seem to have a knack for the job. Will the agency have a future...even if Darby can prove her innocence in time?

My Review:

Woohoo -- a new Amanda Flower mystery and I do so love the way this author weaves a cozy! A small town full of interesting characters makes for the perfect backdrop for this first book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series.

Love that Darby is a PI -- it gives her an edge over her cozy genre contemporaries. :-) She knows a thing or two about working an investigation which is a perk when it comes to keeping herself out of jail! And when Tate shows up -- phew, crackling energy and potential toe-curls await! I'm excited to see if a relationship pans out in future books, especially since I noted the dreaded specter of a love triangle lurking in the background. Praying it ain't so!

A well-paced plot full of twists and turns and enough red herrings to make a delicate armchair sleuth dizzy kept me in rabid-listening mode. Laura Faye Smith did a fabulous job with the narration, bringing a distinctive flare to each character.

And, of course, it wouldn't be an Amanda Flower cozy mystery without a critter or two including a "cat that looks like pillow stuffing with legs." This one definitely ticks all the boxes for this cozy mystery aficionado!

Please note: while not a Christian fiction selection, Dead-End Detective is definitely a clean read.
