TO HELVETICA AND BACK
Star City is known for its slopes and its powder. But nestled in the valley of this ski resort town is a side street full of shops that specialize in the simple charms of earlier eras. One of those shops is the Rescued Word, where Chester Henry and his adult granddaughter Clare lovingly repair old typewriters and restore old books. Who ever thought their quaint store would hold the key to some modern-day trouble?
When a stranger to town demands they turn over an antique Underwood typewriter they're repairing for a customer, Clare fears she may need to be rescued. A call to the police scares the man off, but later Clare finds his dead body in the back alley. What about a dusty old typewriter could possibly be worth killing for?
My Review:
Paige Shelton has become one of my fave cozy mystery authors so I was thrilled to discover this new-to-me series on audible. There's so much to love about Clare and her cohorts!
Like her quaint shop -- repairing typewriters (as outdated as that might sound they do a steady business!) but they have a book restoration sideline too. Love the way the author fits some interesting historical facts about both into the story.
And the town has some quirk -- especially along Bygone Alley's boutique shops. Love the ski / tourist town vibe and the host of secondary characters that keep a reader entranced...especially an intriguing newcomer who brings the spice of romance to Clare's doorstep.
And then there's the mystery. Clever and twisty and fast-paced and utterly mesmerizing. All delivered with the perfect blend of humour and tension.
I really enjoyed Marguerite Gavin's performance. She gives each character a distinctive voice which adds an extra dimension to the narration. Definitely an excellent match for Paige Shelton's storytelling skills. I'm excited to start listening to the next book in the series!
Please note: While not a Christian Fiction selection, this is a clean read.

DeleteWOW, this sounds really interesting! I love old typewriters, I played on one when I was little and learned to type on some older models as the electric ones were first coming out.
