Night Vision

GIVEAWAY

SLEEMAN, SUSAN
NIGHT VISION

A woman on the run with no one to trust...

When Christmas vacation at a snowy Mt. hood cabin turns into a home invasion, Jenna Paine will do anything to protect her four-year-old daughter. Even if it means putting Jeanna's own life on the line. Which she must do when the intruder threatens to kill her. She knows the invader will stop at nothing to take her out, and she can't let him get close ore he might harm her daughter too.

She wants to disappear, but she can't survive on her own.

In fact, Jenna would be dead now if Brendan Byrd of Nighthawk Security hadn't come to her rescue during the invasion. Former Army Delta Force and county deputy, Brendan doesn't think twice about offering his agency's protection services for Jenna and her precious daughter. What he does think twice about is opening his heart to Jenna only to have it broken again. But as the threats escalate, he must hone his vision where she's concerned, figure out this crafty attacker's identity, and in the process, find a way to keep her alive.

My Review:

Whoa -- that heart-in-throat, attention grabbing opening scene hooked me and how!!!! I am beyond thrilled and well on the way into a tizzy-giddy state over this new series by Susan Sleeman. And, yes, this is the second book, but it also reads well as a standalone so you could start here but these Byrd brothers are beyond swoonworthy so you'll definitely want to backtrack and then await the next book's release with just as much eager anticipation as I am. It's just that kind of series. Because...

These brothers! Alpha males all, but their mama (and eeeeep we get to meet her in this book) raised them right. They might josh and scuffle with each other but when it comes to their protection detail they are all business. (Pouff -- that's me landing hard on my fainting couch.) Because these guys are more than qualified to run their own security agency with their combined military and law enforcement backgrounds.

Creating a dynamic team and showcasing their strengths and weaknesses is one of Sleeman's superpowers. Plus she knows how to give her heroes a heart tugging vulnerable side which adds to all that delicious romantic tension.

Speaking of which -- love the balance the author has achieved between the intrigue of the suspense, the toe-curls of the romance and the Byrd family dynamics. There are enough 'breathing' moments between the danger and action to really flesh out the characters and make me feel a part of the team. I'm actually kinda jealous that Jenna got her man...but there are three brothers left and I've set my sights on Clay who gets his very own story due out this week!!!! Only I have to wait a bit longer because the audible edition doesn't release at the same time. :-(

Whiney Dykhouse wooed me with her narration for the first two books and I am committed to enjoying her storytelling style for the next three!
