A Proper Scandal

GIVEAWAY
HATCH, ESTHER
A PROPER SCANDAL

Grace Sinclair has been callously cast out of her home. And though taken in as an orphaned child by the vicar and his wife, her unsurpassed beauty makes it impossible for her to  has remain in the vicar's household -- with two daughters of their own about to enter Society, the vicar and his wife see Grace as nothing but competition. Thankfully, Grace's estranged Aunt Bell has agreed to take her in to her home in London. But Grace soon learns her situation has just gotten much worse.

It takes only a moment's acquaintance for Grace to ascertain that her aunt has married a detestable rake. And Aunt Bell, recognizing the danger of having her lovely niece too near her husband, gives Grace an ultimatum: the young woman has two weeks to find a man to marry, after which she will be turned out. With no experience in the art of attracting a husband, Grace quickly realizes that a worthy suitor might not be so easy to ensnare.

My Read:

A swoonaliciously delightful almost-Regency (1843). Even though it's the Victorian period, this novel has all the elements I adore in Regencies. Witty banter being one of the most alluring! Words fly and confusion reigns right from Grace and Nate's unexpected first meeting. Sparks fly too. The lovely toe-curling kind that make a romantical reader like myself sigh in pure bibliophile bliss.

And I love a plucky heroine who faces multiple harrowing ordeals with tenacity and determination. Grace just doesn't give up. She examines all the angles of each situation and tries to find a satisfactory way out. And marrying Nate would definitely be more than satisfactory. Only it's really complicated. And Grace tangles things up even more and...gah...my emotions got all supercharged waiting for it all to get sorted out.

Luckily I had Nate to swoon over which helped ease my way to the happily ever after part. Even when he was being boneheaded stubborn. :-) Or when he gets totally flummoxed when Grace traps him in one of her inane conversations. Their story is chock full of delicious dialogue -- some of it flirty, some of frustrating and sometimes what isn't said is more important than what is. Makes for such a fun read!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Abigail Warren. She does a marvelous job of bringing these characters to life though I felt a bit of a disconnect at first since the narration was done with an American accent and the dialogue with a British accent. I had a similar experience only in reverse with another book I listened to a few weeks ago. That time the setting was in the US but the narrator was British so the dialogue was with an American accent while the rest of the narration was with a British one. It takes a bit of getting used to -- the switching back and forth of the accents, but once I did I didn't mind it as much.

Please note: While not a Christian Fiction novel, this is absolutely, positively a clean read. (Hooray!)

GIVEAWAY OPPORTUNITY:

Alas, this is another title that isn't available in print format on Book Depository (I listened to the audible edition) so this giveaway is for an ebook.
