LOWE, T.I.
BEACH HAVEN
"Sometimes things happen. They change us, and life leads us to other paths."
Free-spirited Opal Gilbert seems to have everything she needs to keep living a happy life in Sunset Cove as she refurbishes vintage furniture to sell at her funky ocean-side boutique, Bless This Mess. Until Lincoln Cole, a new-to-town ex-Marine mursing deep wounds and harboring hurts he can't seem to shake, wanders into her shop. Opal knows a person in need when she sees one and offers Lincoln a job in her workshop on the spot. But the brooding former soldier has no interest in Opal's offer. Thanks but no thanks.
But then a hurricane strikes, damaging Bless This Mess. Feeling guilty for how he treated Opal, Lincoln decides to help her repair the store. And soon it becomes clear Opal wants to restore not only her business, but also help Lincoln find restoration. As much as Lincoln tries to keep her at arm's length, Opal's well-meaning meddling begins to heal his wounds...and capture his ehart almost before he realizes it.
My Review:
Oh happy, happy, sigh! What a romantical love story! Even when Lincoln is being gnarly (which is pretty much most of the time) he's deliciously swoonworthy in that wounded hero kind of way. And my oh my, but does he ever have a bite to go with that bark. He growls his way through so many conversations with Opal and she's all la-de-dah, you're not going to mess with me, boyo. Ha! So much fun!
I have just discovered T.I. Lowe this year and her name is now written in permanent ink on my must-buy-as-soon-as-it-releases list. I love the way she paces a story and the way she builds a community and the faith threads seamlessly woven into every plot. And her writing is so smooth...a luscious flow of words that create such vivid images in my mind. I pretty much inhaled Beach Haven in one blissful sitting.
Oh -- and Opal -- she has to be one of the most unique heroines I have ever met within the pages of a book! I love her! She's quirky and artsy and definitely marching to the beat of a different drummer. And she about drives Linc crazy! Such a contrast to his grumpy, taciturn self. :-) This is me grinning maniacally.
And, whoohoo, this is the first book in The Carolina Coast series and Lowe has done a wonderful job of setting the stage for books to come. I am totally invested in Sunset Cove and its inhabitants. Definitely a not--to-be-missed read.

On a side note: did you think it was odd in that first chapter when Lincoln goes to the diner for breakfast and the other fella is sitting there with a full meal including biscuits and gravy, but when Lincoln gets biscuits and gravy with his meal he says he wish he had some!? Details like that really stick out to me.
Ooohhh, I think that's the perils of reading a preview chapter maybe? I read that scene over again in my paperback copy and Carter has the full breakfast with the biscuits and Josie brings Lincoln his plate of French toast (which I am going to make for brekkie tomorrow since re-reading that scene has started a craving) and Lincoln asks why he doesn't get biscuits and gravy like Carter and Josie says a fresh batch is just about out of the oven and she goes to get some for him. Bet they caught the error you read in the preview before it went to print? Maybe? Or they pulled the before-edited scene and posted it by mistake for the preview?
DeleteHa -- you're in the beach hat -- only it's more of a sun blocking wide-brimmed gardening hat. :-) Good luck, Tracey!
I think the preview was that 'look inside" thing they do on amazon. Good to know it wasn't in print like that, they probably corrected in the eversion too but didn't fix the preview.
DeleteI cannot wait to read this story! I love Tonya's books!
ReplyDeletedmandres5 at gmail dot com
Oohhh, I did not know her name was Tonya. And I'm still trying to figure out how I've been Lowe clueless all these years. Gah! Good luck, Melissa!
DeleteYes! Tonya Inez is what TI stands for. She is a wonderfully sweet, fun southern lady!
DeleteI love T.I. Lowe's books, too. I discovered her so long ago when she just had her indie books out. I think they were indie. Anyway, I'm so happy you enjoyed this one. It's of course on my tbr. Call me an emotional reader, but I'm all about the swoon.

I need to do some major catching up! Good luck, Caryl!
DeleteMakes me wish I was at the beach! We have a lot of new covid-19 cases and very rarely go anywhere. Sounds like a fun summer read.
ReplyDeleteWe've just started easing some restrictions - but social distancing remains in effect so you can go to the beach but you or your family group needs to keep apart from others. No impromptu volley ball games I guess. But, a person plunk her socially distanced self down and read to soothing sound of waves lapping on the beach. Good luck, rubynreba.
DeleteWow, love this cover, I too wish I could be on the beach. sonflower277 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteHere's the next best thing. Good luck, karen.
DeletePlease don't enter me because I have already read it. Just wanted to say I totally agree with everything you said. Absolutely loved Lulu's Cafe and Beach Haven. She is a pretty new to me author, but definitely on my must read list now.
ReplyDeleteThose are the two I've read as well. I just love her writing style. Thanks for chiming in, Melissa!
DeleteYou've convinced me! This is going on my wish list! I haven't read any of her books yet, but I've heard great things about them. Thanks for the chance to win.
