Carolina Breeze

GIVEAWAY
HUNTER, DENISE
CAROLINA BREEZE

A jilted bride. A struggling innkeeper. And a romantic mountain getaway that changes everything.

Rising Hollywood star Mia Emerson is looking for a safe place to land in the wake of a public breakup and scandal, and she finds it in the lake town of Bluebell, North Carolina -- the location of her canceled honeymoon. She wants nothing more than to hide and wait for the tabloids to die down.

Soon after her arrival at the Bluebell Inn, Mia meets Levi Bennett, who runs the inn along with his two younger sisters. Drawn to one another from the start, Mia trusts Levi to keep her location from the press, and Levi confides in Mia about the financial state of the inn -- a secret he's been keeping from his sisters.

When Mia and Levi discover an old journal that hints at a rare diamond necklace hidden in the inn, they set off on a treasure hunt to find the long-lost heirloom. What they don't expect to surface are feelings they thought were safely locked away. Mia and Levi must decide if falling in love again is too big a risk -- or if it will uncover a treasure of its own instead.

My Review:

True confession: I don't fancy celebrity story lines. At all. In fact, I'll usually avoid these books at all cost. Not sure why I have such an aversion -- just not into the whole idolizing a star and the superficial lifestyle and the glam...well, just, blech! :-) BUT this is Denise Hunter and I've read the first Bluebell Inn Romance book so I was dithering and then a bunch of Good Reads friends started waxing poetical about it and I decided to quit toe-dabbling and take the plunge.

Honestly, what would I do without GR buddies to shake me out of my readerish rut every once in a while? Because...ta da!!!!... I LOVED this book! I even loved Mia and I thought I'd have trouble connecting with her but, nope, she and I became besties right away and when we arrived at Bluebell Inn and Levi greeted us...woooheeee...one of us fell hard and fast and collapsed on her fainting couch. That would be me. Mia was a bit of a romantical late bloomer but she had some serious life distractions so I gave her a pass. And I did enough swooning for both us until she could catch up. :-)

Because...Levi! He has major big brother syndrome that is both endearing and infuriating. And he has this deeply rooted protective instinct that goes into overdrive when it becomes apparent Mia could use some help. Be still my heart. He's half Neanderthal and half enlightened 21st century man and sometimes they clash with delightful results. This is the kind of soul-searching, deeply layered love story that Denise Hunter does so well. Be prepared for some emotional sucker-punching!

Loved the page time we get with Levi's sisters as well. I am so invested in this family and their quest to fulfill their deceased parents' dream. Love the banter and the angst and the just plain ordinary sibling stuff going on between them. But they always have each other's back -- even know-it-all big brother Levi who thinks that means he gets to dictate his sisters' lives. Yeah, that goes over about as well as you think it would.

Don't worry if you missed the first book in this series (but you really should pick it ups sometime!) Carolina Breeze reads brilliantly as a standalone. Hunter has this knack for pulling her readers in and making them feel a part of things right away.

An emotional contemporary romance  full of faith, family and hard worn happily-ever-afters.

  2. Interesting! And I am like you, with the Hollywood lifestyle being a total 180 from mine! The location and underlying story sound appealing. Thanks! By the way, since you love gardening and perennials so much, I am just finishing a new book I discovered, by chance, at my library. It is not Christian fiction but is clean with a wonderful underlying message - more than a few messages - The Heirloom Garden by Viola Shipman.

  6. Really enjoyed the few books I've had the good fortune to read by this author. "CAROLINA BREEZE" sounds like a wonderful book and one that I would greatly enjoy reading under the fans on the front porch with a never ending glass of something cold to drink. Don't you just love the cover! I mean look at the view! Now mind you I'll take my porch any time, but I sure could vacation there. :)

Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy!

  14. Hey Kav, like you I'm not a fan of the Hollywood/celebrity angle in books,
but I had to read this because it was Denise Hunter!
    and second in series!
    And Levi!
It was good but Lake Season is still my favorite with it's atypical hero. I loved getting a glimpse of Adam and Molly!
